Directed by Cliff Odie at Gerald Freedman, UNCSA Choir Boy, written by Tarell Alvin McCraney, is a coming-of-age drama that follows Pharus, a gifted student at a prestigious all-boys prep school for young Black men. As he leads the school’s choir, Pharus grapples with questions of identity, masculinity, and acceptance while navigating the tensions between tradition and self-expression. The play blends gospel music, rich dialogue, and raw emotion to explore themes of belonging, resilience, and the power of finding one’s true voice.
Devin T Gibbs will play in the theater production “ Choir Boy.” It will be at UNCSA, Winston, Salem, NC, this fall. The show will run Late October through early November 2025.
